Hill orchards, Afghanistan–Kashmir belt
Mamra Almonds
Mamra grows wild in the hill orchards straddling Afghanistan and Kashmir, in far smaller quantities than the almonds most people know. It's denser, oilier, and irregular in shape because nobody farms it on an industrial scale — which is exactly why it was the almond sent as a gift to nobility, not sold in the bazaar. One bite and the difference is obvious: deeper flavour, a satisfying bite, and a richness that regular almonds simply don't have.
